The All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) is an Indian political party founded by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on 22 June 1939. It originated as a faction within the Indian National Congress following differences over the direction of the independence movement and the strategy for achieving complete freedom from British rule. After India's independence, the Forward Bloc continued as an independent political party, advocating socialism, social justice, and economic equality. The party has historically maintained a political presence in West Bengal and has participated in electoral politics and left-wing political coalitions. Its programme emphasises the interests of workers, peasants, and other disadvantaged sections of society, alongside national sovereignty and economic self-reliance.

Ideology

The All India Forward Bloc's ideological tradition draws on the political thought of Subhas Chandra Bose and combines socialism, anti-imperialism, and left-wing nationalism. Its constitution advocates a socialist transformation of Indian society, opposition to economic exploitation, and the eventual establishment of a classless society. The party supports workers' and peasants' rights, equitable distribution of resources, national independence in economic and political affairs, and social justice. It identifies socialism as a central objective while seeking a political and economic approach suited to Indian conditions.
