Birbhum Lok Sabha Constituency General Election 1998 Results: Dome Ram Chandra of CPM won with 3,80,314 votes, defeating Dr Madan Lal Choudhury of BJP, who received 2,18,802 votes. Dome Ram Chandra won by a margin of 1,61,512 votes, equivalent to 20.84% of the total votes polled. Total votes polled were 7,75,121.
