Darbhanga Lok Sabha Constituency General Election 1996 Results: Md. Ali Ashraf Fatmi of JD won with 3,21,828 votes, defeating Dhirendra Kumar Jha of BJP, who received 2,17,807 votes. Md. Ali Ashraf Fatmi won by a margin of 1,04,021 votes, equivalent to 16.78% of the total votes polled. Total votes polled were 6,19,869.
