The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is an Indian political party founded in 2012 following the India Against Corruption movement, which called for stronger anti-corruption measures and greater accountability in public life. The party entered electoral politics with a promise to provide an alternative to established political parties and increase the role of ordinary citizens in governance. Its political agenda has emphasized access to public services, government school education, healthcare, electricity, water supply, and transparency in administration. AAP first contested the Delhi Legislative Assembly election in 2013 and subsequently expanded its political presence beyond Delhi, including in Punjab and other states.
AAP's stated principles include anti-corruption, Swaraj or greater public participation in governance, transparency, secularism, equality, and social justice.
