Vidhan Sabha, also known as the Legislative Assembly, is the elected house of the state legislature in India. In states with a unicameral legislature, the Vidhan Sabha is the sole legislative house, while in states with a bicameral legislature, it is the lower house. Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) are directly elected by voters from individual Assembly constituencies.
Vidhan Sabha elections are held separately in different states and in Union Territories that have a Legislative Assembly. The normal term of a Legislative Assembly is five years, although an Assembly may be dissolved before the completion of its term. Elections determine the representatives elected from individual Assembly constituencies and the distribution of seats among political parties.
A Vidhan Sabha election is conducted across individual Assembly constituencies. Voters in each constituency elect one representative to the Legislative Assembly. The election results for a constituency show the candidates who contested the election, the votes received by each candidate and the candidate who won the seat.
Constituency-level results are useful for understanding how voting patterns have changed over different elections. They also provide a detailed picture of the performance of political parties and individual candidates across a state.
Assembly election history provides a detailed view of how electoral representation has changed over time. Election records can include constituency-wise results, candidates, votes received, vote share, winning candidates and political parties.
Select a state and then explore the available election years to find detailed Assembly election results. This makes it easier to follow the electoral history of a state and compare results across different elections.
