The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was founded in Andhra Pradesh in 1982 by N. T. Rama Rao. The party emerged around Telugu identity and the demand for greater dignity and political recognition for Telugu-speaking people. It has played a significant role in Andhra Pradesh politics and has focused on economic development, infrastructure, agriculture, welfare programmes, and administrative reform.
