The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is a political party founded in Punjab in 1920 and historically associated with Sikh political and religious institutions. It has played an important role in Punjab's regional politics and has advocated the protection of Sikh religious interests, Punjabi identity, and state-level autonomy. Its political agenda has also included farmers' welfare, rural development, and the social and economic concerns of Punjab's population.
