Indian Census

Indian Census is conducted every 10 years. Last census was conducted in 2011. It was the 15th such exercise. First Indian Census was conducted for year 1881 before independence under British rule. Initial Indian Census also included caste data apart from religion and other details.

Indian Lok Sabha Elections

Indian Lok Sabha Elections are also known as Indian General Elections. Elections are held for electing Member of Parliament for lower house or Lok Sabha of the Indian Parliament. All adult citizens are encouraged to vote in the process. Largest party is invited to govern the country, after proving majority, by appointing head of country known as Prime Minister. Elected Members hold their seats for 5 years or until the parliament is dissolved by President.

The first General elections took place during 1951-52 after India got independence in 1947. Total Seventeen General Elections have taken place since independence of India.

Elections for Eighteenth Lok sabha are being held in April-June 2024 in seven phases. Final phase of elections will take place on 1 June 2024.

Indian Assembly Elections

Indian Assembly Elections are held for electing Member of the Legislative Assembly at State/UT level. There are 28 States and 8 Union Territories(UTs) in India. Largest party is invited to govern the state or UT after proving majority by appointing head of state known as Chief Minister. Winning candidates hold their seats for 5 years or until the assembly is dissolved by Governon of State.
